β€œHell is round the corner where I shelter, isms and schisms, we’re living on a skelter.”

Massive Attack - Eurochild

This line was the inspiration for my graffiti tag in the mid-2000’s, causing me to tag up almost every sheet of paper I came across (a few walls, too - but I was never really any good). The song it comes from evokes our ever more technological society and the anxieties that come with living in it. This was massively influential on me - having grown up in Ukraine and moved to Canada at the turn of the millennium, what was I but a Eurochild? What is a schism but two different lives of a person, separated by 8000 kilometres? Or the divisions that we tend to set, between our pasts and presents, between ourselves and others, between analogue and digital?

I haven’t tagged anything in many years. But my fascination with graffiti and street art has made way for a passion about typography, photography, and graphic design. Music, technology, and science fiction remain some of my greatest inspirations for what I do. In this way, I like to think that skzm remains my signature on the world.
